Why should I use a professional travel agent to book my vacation?
A professional travel agent takes the headache out of planning and handles virtually every aspect of your trip at no cost to you. With so many travel suppliers, cruise lines, destinations and itineraries, it has become hard to know which is best for you; without years of experience, you risk paying more than you need to or getting less than you expected. Our travel counselors sell travel one-on-one, not as order-takers in a call center, and the service is provided by Smart Traveler, online since 1995 and run by a family in travel since 1935.
Can you work within my budget?
Absolutely. We work within any realistic budget, and an honest sharing of ideas and goals helps us make the right recommendations for your travel plans.
Does it cost money to get a quote?
No. There is no fee for our services: travel suppliers compensate us from the amount you would have paid them anyway. For complex international itineraries that require custom crafting with our international partners, we may ask for a small intent-to-travel deposit to begin; it is not an extra fee and is applied in full to your reservations.
When do I have to pay for my travel reservations?
Each supplier has its own deposit, payment and cancellation rules. Your travel counselor will explain them once you approve an option, and your card is charged by the supplier. We consider ourselves fiduciaries for your travel arrangements: we work for you, not the suppliers.
Where can I find my itinerary once my trip is booked?
Itineraries and receipts are emailed to the address you provide. Because we connect directly to many suppliers’ systems (airlines, cruise lines, hotels, cars and rail), you can also retrieve your booking on their own client sites.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is available and recommended to protect your investment. Many trips, such as tours and cruises, involve non-refundable payments made months in advance, and coverage during travel — medical care, missed connections, lost luggage and evacuation — can matter even more, since medical care abroad is often not covered by domestic plans. Some countries also require proof of medical insurance for entry.
How do I cancel a trip I have booked with you?
Contact your travel counselor right away. After business hours, contact the next travel supplier involved (airline, hotel, tour operator or cruise line) to cancel reservations you cannot use, and if you bought travel insurance, call the insurer’s 24-hour line to start a claim.
How do I know I can trust this travel vendor?
Smart Traveler is extremely cautious in choosing business partners and vendors, and we work only with known, reliable providers in order to maintain a high standard of service.
